What is a Piggy Sack???A Piggy Sack is an Asian styled baby carrier
called a Mei Tai (pronounced "May-tie"). In Chinese, Mei Tai means "to carry the beautiful". Asian baby carriers have been used in China and other countries for centuries making life with a baby both practical and enjoyable. Mommies like myself are amazed at how much they can get done with both hands free and with a happy baby. Babies who are worn in carriers like these cry less and are more content. I use colorful silk brocade fabric and soft twill to make my Piggy Sacks both stylish and comfortable. My Piggy Sacks are sewn with the safety of your baby in mind. They are reinforced 4 times on the weight bearing areas. The straps are lightly padded for your comfort. Want to know how to use a Piggy Sack? Click HERE. Want to buy one?? Click HERE.
How it all started...
This is the very first Piggy Sack I ever made. My second daughter, Lucy, was a very fussy, colicky baby. She cried all the time, for no apparent reason & was rarely happy. A friend of mine recommended I try a sling - so I ran out to Target to buy the only one they had on the shelf. It was a very hot, bulky sling- but it worked like a charm, she fell asleep immediately in it - every time we used it (which was very often!) But then she started to get too heavy for that one-shouldered sling. I found my back was hurting & I was exhausted. Plus, it was not a very pretty contraption - my husband was wearing it once & was turned away from a store- they thought he was selling newspapers! So I turned to the Internet & found there was so much out there in different varieties of slings..so I sat down at my sewing machine & got to work - I came up with the one in this picture after seeing a few ideas online. I used this carrier all the time - it was where Lucy wanted to be! Everywhere I went, I was getting comments on it & finally a friend convinced me to make her one- I did & that just seemed to catch on...many mommies were wanting one...now here we are some 600+ carriers later - we have the Piggy Sack! Recently the demand for Piggy Sacks has been so high that I have not been able to sew them fast enough! This is so exciting! So I have a few wonderful, talented work-at-home-moms helping me with sewing the straps. They are doing a great job! Please know that you can expect the same quality workmanship as I would do!!

How can I use my Piggy Sack?
The Piggy Sack can be worn from newborns (even preemies!) all the way through toddlerhood. I can still wear my 3.5 year-old on my back. I still wear my almost 2 year old regularly. The child can be worn tummy to tummy, on your hip, on your back and forward facing. Nursing is simple and discreet in the Piggy Sack. Two can be worn at one time- one on front, and one in back when using 2 carriers. A great option for twin mommies! You can continue to use the Piggy Sack while pregnant with your new little Piggy. This is a Daddy friendly carrier as well - just reverse the pattern to the other side. This is also a great option for day-care providers, as these carriers are not size-specific. Check out my "How to use the Piggy Sack" page for video wearing instructions.
About us
My name is Mandy Harry. My husband, Dean, and I have 4 beautiful children, Jocelyn born 3/04, Lucy born 3/05 Nate born 1/07 and Tessa born 5/09. I am currently expecting a new little piggy December 17, 2011! Sadly Jocelyn passed away when she was 2 months old due to an undetected birth defect. Then God quickly blessed us with Lucy who was a CRIER! I got really into researching & making slings & carriers until she finally was happy. When Nate came along, he had no choice- he was a Piggy Sack baby from the very start! We live in Bel Air, MD. Dean is in the Life Insurance business. I quit my job as a Special Education teacher to stay home with my little Piggies and love it! I LOVE breastfeeding my children & one day, maybe after my kids are in school hope to become a Lactation Consultant or work in the birth & babies field somewhere. I am passionate about natural birthing and women's birth options. I am happy to say that my most recent daughter, Tessa was born at home! I am very excited for my next upcoming homebirth planned for December 2011.
